Assistant Therapeutic Riding Instructor & BHS Stage 2 Coach

Hi my name’s Georgie. I’m a therapeutic riding instructor here at Hope Meadows working with children and adults. Whether you’ve been riding for years or never ridden before therapeutic riding can offer new opportunities for growth, healing and joy.

My aim for therapeutic riding sessions is to create  a safe, non judgemental space designed for learning, engagement and openness. Activities can include mindfulness games, exploring emotions and ground work sessions. Connecting with the horses in these sessions not only allows for connection between the body and mind but also encourages trust building and teamwork. It encourages empathy and improves skills such as decision making and problem solving. It offers individuals a sense of achievement and boosts self confidence through consequence based learning.

Therapeutic riding doesn’t always have to take place in the saddle. It can involve just being with the horses doing activities such as grooming and plaiting or ground work sessions such as leading the ponies round an obstacle course. I aim to allow individuals to take some control over sessions and consider their emotions and feelings when deciding what they’d like to do during sessions.

Long term changes experienced by individuals attending session include improved communication, self-belief, confidence, concentration and decision making all very useful in helping with everyday tasks.

Qualifications and CPD: 

• BSc (Hons) Equine Psychology and Sport Science 

• BHS Level 2 Coach 

• BHS Level 3 Groom with Riding 

• TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems
